Those of you who know me well, know how fired up I can get about my sports teams, well I was fired up Saturday night after the
NASCAR race in Richmond when Jr. got wrecked, while leading, in the final 5 laps. I am not a Kyle Busch fan by any stretch of the imagination and a huge Jr. fan, so naturally I was pretty upset with what happened. Jr. always seems to be the bigger man in situations like this, he always seems to take at least part of the blame and never really calls other drivers names or talks bad about them – on one hand, I really admire this in him, I think it makes him a good guy; on the other hand, I wish he’d get mad every once in a while. He did say he thought Busch might need a little extra security, but that's as mean as he gets. Kyle Busch needs to tone it down a little,
yeah, it may have been a racing deal, but when you are the common factor two nights in a row and more often than not – that should say something. I have two acquaintances (sorry guys - that's all you get this week) that are Kyle Busch fans and on in particular said to me once they liked him because he is aggressive and a good driver, come on he told me, he is practically leading all three series. But this really gets me too, why do Cup guys feel the need to take over the Nationwide spot light? I understand that they are racers, they love to race, it’s what they do, but give some young guys a chance – you were all there once. I used to watch Busch racing a lot, but why watch it now, when I can see all the same guys on Sunday. The Cup guys are taking away from up & coming stars, they are taking rides, equipment, and notice; so where do Cup owners go when they need to fill a seat – not to the Nationwide drivers, but to open wheel drivers, drives that maybe have never driven a stock car. So now we have a handful of rookies, who are just wrecking equipment because they don’t have experience. I think that if
NASCAR is going to let Cup guys run in the Nationwide races, and Truck for that matter, they should limit the number of races they can run – they are more experienced, they usually get the better cars and teams, so of course they are going to run better. Do other professional sports let their top series athletes participate in minor league games on their off days, no – because that’s where tomorrow’s talent comes from and we will never know who that talent is if we keep letting the big boys beat up on them. And... more and more people are complaining, especially since Danica Patrick just won an
IRL race, that
NASCAR has a serious lack of women and minorities coming up through the ranks, they say
NASCAR needs to get rid of the southern bad boy image and for lack of a better phrase "be an equal opportunity employer". Yeah well, who can give a women or an
African-
American driver or who ever a chance when they've already let the Cup guys sign up for all the Nationwide races? So there it is, I could go on, but I won't... I'll just sit and wait patiently for the All Star Race, where I hope Jr. puts Kyle Busch in the wall - NO POINTS, JUST VICTORY!!! – I’ll be there cheering him on!!!
Brian - sorry I blew-up, I was a little depressedPepe - sorry, but I don't think we should sit next to each other at the raceK - AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!! (Cough in my hand)
